Not all of the hosting companies run Joomla the best.  Permission Issues, PHP and MySQL errors, and Ioncube Loader troubles can all cause problems on servers that are not correctly configured to run Joomla. JoomlaHosting.com created this list so that you do not experience the pain we did and can learn from us.

We have divided the list into two sections: "Real Bad" and "Not the Best."  Real bad is real bad and should be avoided completely.  Not the best might work for you if you have to work with them but I would try to go with one of our Top Hosts or reccommended hosts if possible.

On occasion we have a client that wants to use a host that we know will not work that well with Joomla.  Here is how we persuade them to go with a different host.  Dollars and Cents.  We ask them to look at the cost of hosting for a year, usually a little over $100 per year, then we ask them to look at our hourly rate, around $100 per hour.  We then explain to them that if we encounter any problems (permissions, mysql or php errors) then our hourly rate will get much more expensive troubleshooting a hosting company with known Joomla problems.

Real Bad Joomla Hosts

Yahoo Hosting Great customer and phone support, but they do not run joomla sites that well.  Also you do not get access to your .htaccess file so using any sort of SEF (search engine friendly) URL component is out.
