As many of us know, Joomla have just released Joomla 1.6 RC1 and are about to release Joomla 1.6.0 on January 10th 2011, if all goes according to plan! However, there is the issue with templates and how upgrading to Joomla 1.6 will affect our Joomla 1.5 templates. Will we have to have templates re-built and who will be offering Joomla 1.6 templates? We hope this guide lays to rest any questions or queries you may have whilst also shedding knowledge on the Joomla 1.6 templating issues once and for all.

Chad Windnagle has written a very detailed resource over at Joomla.org titled 'What You Need to Know About Joomla 1.6 Part 5: Templates. He covers everything from the xml file, to the css and index.php. He also uses pictures for both Joomla 1.5 and 1.6 to show the differences and aid his points.

There are literally thousands of Joomla tutorials floating around the web but, no real organisation of them! It is really hard to find unusual and creative Joomla websites for inspiration. Since I have been designing Joomla sites I have kept a list of the great joomla sites that catch my eye. These are some of the best sites on the list.
We find these sites to be very unique and give us great ideas when starting a new site. They have been helpful to us and we think they will be helpful to you.

Magenta is a real unusual website especially when considering it is a Joomla template. The website is themed around discrimination and is a non-profit organisation. Once you go past the first page of the site you can begin to see aspects of Joomla.
